Zimbabwe Centre for Communication Research and Opinion Survey Trust (ZCCRPOST) empowered women and youth in Buhera West with Citizen journalism training.

ZCCRPOST has embarked on a journey of empowering women, especially those from marginalised communities, with journalism skills. So far, they have covered two provinces: Masvingo and Manicaland.

The training aims to equip women with the skills to tell their stories and hold authorities accountable.

ZCCRPOST Director Dr Last Alfandika said the training is crucial in equipping women with skills to share their stories.

“It is crucial for women and youth to have a voice, and by equipping them with citizen journalism skills, they can share their successes, experiences, and challenges within the community in which they live,” said DR Last Alfandika.

The training has also received endorsement from local leaders, and they said they have learnt a lot on how these skills can impact positively on women in their communities.

“We are very happy, and as leaders, we welcome this move by ZCCRPOST, and we have seen that these journalism skills will impact positively on women in our communities,” said Silvanos Mugorogodi, who was representing Nechavava Village in Buhera.

Citizen journalism has the potential to be a powerful tool in driving change for women in marginalised communities.
