In commemoration of International Women’s Day, the Zimbabwe Centre for Communication Research and Opinion Survey Trust (ZCCRPOST) empowers women and youth from Chiredzi with journalism skills through citizen journalism training held in March 2023 in Chiredzi.
The women and youth of Muteo Village, Chiredzi East, Ward 4, under Chief Tshovani through ZCCRPOST, have managed to receive journalism skills, which is a positive step towards development in their community as they are able to inform and educate their communities on issues that may be affecting them.
Chief Tshovani of Muteo village E. Mundau expressed his gratitude towards the initiative.
“I want to express my gratitude and appreciation to ZCCRPOST for this initiative, as this training is very important to us because it equips our community with journalism skills that will elevate our community,” said Mundau.
Women from Chiredzi expressed interest and gratitude towards the training, and they were happy to embark on a new journey as journalists, as some said journalists play a critical role in the development of their community.
“We are so happy and excited to embark on this new journey as citizen journalists because we have witnessed journalists driving development through their stories, and we are going to do the same for our community with the skills gained here,” said Delightful Mzamani
The training equiped women with basic journalism skills such as filming using mobile phones, conducting interviews and digital story telling.
